Monday, June 4 - Over to Halifax

Today we were hoping to get our whale watching boat trip, but when I called to set up a reservation, I was advised that the bigger boats don't start going out until mid-June. Only the Zodiac boats were running and that wasn't going to happen for us. We decided to make the run across the peninsula to Halifax, so we pulled up stakes at the campground where we had the comforts of water & electricity hookups for 2 days and made our way to a WalMart northeast of Halifax. We drove down to Peggy's Cove, a picturesque fishing village with a world-famous lighthouse. After that, we drove a little further down the coast through some very beautiful villages on the sea or on one of the thousands of inlets and lakes in NS. Then we took a quick trip to downtown Halifax's waterfront. While we were there, we saw the Norwegian Gem in port. We drove back to the motorhome and had a nice dinner of leftovers from previous dinners including steak cooked on a campfire. french fries from our lobster dinner trip a couple nights ago and ice cream for desert.

Thursday, June 14 - Sprint to Central Massachusetts

Today we got an early start and drove all the way to central Massachusetts. We stopped at Freeport, ME for about 2 hours to go to the LL Bean outlet store, then back on the road. We arrived at our campground about 5:00pm. We have electricity, water and sewer here, so were able to replenish our expendables, do laundry, get showers and dump tanks. Today we're planning to drive to someplace TBD north of Scranton where we'll spend the night, returning home on Saturday.

Departure Day: Sunday, May 27

It was a rainy, dreary Sunday morning when we left at about 10am. The ride to our first stop in Guilford, CT took a little over 4 hours, much of it in rain and gloomy skies. We reached our destination, Bishop's Orchards , at about 2:15pm. This place is a member of the HarvestHosts organization, a group of several hundred wineries, orchards, farms, etc who let let subscribers like me stay on their properties in their RV overnight. This particular place is very nice, consisting of a large supermarket that sells just about anything you'd find in any supermarket, but much of it with local origins. When we got here, the manager told us that we could stay as long as we like so long as we advise each day when we're going to extend. We made a decision to spend 2 nights here, one before our trip to Mystic and one after. Weather here is cold and damp with temperatures in the low 60's. It will probably get down into the 50's overnight.

Monday, May 28, Memorial Day

Last night was wet and very cool here, in the low 50's. With a couple of comforters, it was great sleeping weather, but it was still gloomy when we woke up. Mystic is about a 45 minute drive from where we spent the night and, being a holiday, we wanted to get there early so we'd get a good parking spot. We arrived as they were opening and we pretty much had the place to ourselves until about 11am, but it was quite brisk to the point we needed our jackets.
