Our 2018 Canadian Maritimes Trip

Today we drove about 4 or 5 hours from our Halifax base to our Capw Breton Island base ai the Cape Breton Highlands National Park campground at Cheticamp. It rained al night and we had to run the gas furnaces, but it seems to be letting up now. We have full hookups here, so can more easily get a hot shower and wash clothes with no water limitations. Scenery around here is breathtaking at every turn. Today we'll take the Jeep on an estimated 8 hour tour on the Cabot Trail, which encircles the island. No pictures to pass along except this, as all our driving was in the MH and its difficult to shoot while driving.

Today we were hoping to get our whale watching boat trip, but when I called to set up a reservation, I was advised that the bigger boats don't start going out until mid-June. Only the Zodiac boats were running and that wasn't going to happen for us. We decided to make the run across the peninsula to Halifax, so we pulled up stakes at the campground where we had the comforts of water & electricity hookups for 2 days and made our way to a WalMart northeast of Halifax. We drove down to Peggy's Cove, a picturesque fishing village with a world-famous lighthouse. After that, we drove a little further down the coast through some very beautiful villages on the sea or on one of the thousands of inlets and lakes in NS. Then we took a quick trip to downtown Halifax's waterfront. While we were there, we saw the Norwegian Gem in port. Today we got an early start and drove all the way to the Southern tip of NS via the West coast and back up the East coast. It was epic 9 hour day of driving, in and out of craggy coves and villages.

Our motorhome is presently camped at Ridge Valley Campground near Digby in the Southwest part of Nova Scotia below: We moved here from our WalMart site because we needed to drain the holding tanks, fill the water tank and run a few loads of laundry in our washing machine without using up our tank reserves. It also gives an opportunity to use electricity with impunity without running the generator or draining the batteries. We might stay here another night if we can book a whale watching cruise from Brier Island tomorrow. Brier Island is all the way at the tip of the narrow peninsula on the southwest side of NS. Today we took a long car trip up to the Northern end of the Bay of Fundy. We took the coastal roads up and saw a few quaint villages and a lot of farm land. While there, we stopped at Wolfsville, a charming coastal town that's also the home of Acadia University. We're here! We putzed around this morning doing wash and straightening up. We went to a bank to exchange some cash when Barb noticed it was 12:00 when we thought it was 11:00. There is a time zone change. We had to be at the ferry terminal at 1:00 for our 2:00 departure, so we ran back to the motorhome and hooked up the Jeep. When I tried to put the satellite dish down, the control unit seemed dead and I couldn't get it working. We drove to the ferry terminal anyway, hoping the increased height wouldn't result in our getting bumped. When we arrived, they measured our total length for final fare calculations, but said the added height wasn't a problem....what a relief! After getting checked in, I fooled with the control unit some more and got it working, so was able to lower the dish after all...another relief.
